In our previous blog post we covered what pelvic health physiotherapy is and what conditions we are able to assess and treat at the clinic. Our resident physiotherapist, Raphaële, is now accepting cis-female clients looking for pelvic health physiotherapy in the Port Credit and Mississauga area! What can you expect at your first session with us?
During the 1-hour initial assessment, we will start by going over a thorough history of your symptoms, based on what you are comfortable sharing with us. We then proceed to assess your posture, breathing, and how you move to further understand your symptoms. An internal exam is often done, with your consent, to thoroughly assess the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding structures. Rest assured that Pelvic Physiotherapists receive advanced training and are registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario to perform internal examinations. Finally, we will discuss your treatment plan together and agree on the goals you'd like to work on.
In the first visit we prioritize assessing the root cause of your symptoms, but also allocate some time towards the end of the assessment to begin your individualized treatment plan. We can use internal or external manual therapy, individualized exercises, and education to address your symptoms.
If you have extended health coverage for physiotherapy, pelvic physiotherapy sessions are typically covered. No referral is needed to be assessed or treated by a physiotherapist for pelvic health, however some insurance companies do require a physician’s referral for physiotherapy reimbursement.
We understand that a first visit can sometimes be nerve-wracking. If you have any additional questions about Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy at Peak Form Physiotherapy, please contact us to speak with Raphaële.
